Guudji yiigu nyura – hello everyone!
It is an absolute privilege to welcome you to Taree High School, a place of learning, culture, and community for over a century. As the oldest and largest high school in the Manning Valley, we have a deep history of education and resilience. Generations of students have walked our halls, shaping the fabric of our school and carrying their experiences forward into the world. We proudly stand on the lands of the Biripi people, and we acknowledge and celebrate the strength of their culture, past, present, and future.
Taree High School is not defined by a single moment in time – we are a living, evolving learning community. Our mission has always been to provide every student with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed in whatever path they choose. From our early days to today, we have upheld values of cooperation, participation, and respect, fostering an inclusive environment where students feel known, valued, and cared for.
As we continue our journey, we are guided by the tradition of excellence that has sustained us for over a century and the vision that will carry us forward. Our daily work reinforces our ongoing commitment to:
- Student Growth and Attainment – ensuring every student makes meaningful academic progress each year, supported by expert teaching and high expectations. We focus on strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and successful post-school pathways.
- Enhancing Engagement and Wellbeing – fostering a positive, supportive school culture where every student and staff member feels safe, included, and inspired to learn and grow.
- Community and Cultural Engagement – strengthening partnerships with families, local organisations, and community leaders, while deeply embedding Biripi culture and perspectives into school life.
But beyond this, our legacy is built on people – the students who achieve, the staff who inspire, and the families and community members who support and believe in Taree High. It is this collective spirit that has sustained us for over a century and will continue to drive us into the future.
Taree High School has always been more than just a school – it is a pillar of the Manning Valley and a place where young people grow into leaders, professionals, creatives, and active members of society. We are a school rich in history, strong in the present, and bold in shaping the future.
I invite every student, caregiver, and community member to be part of our continuing story. Whether you are new to Taree High or have long been part of our legacy, your involvement, support, and belief in our school make all the difference.
Together, we will continue to build on the strengths of our past while embracing the opportunities of the future.
Thank you for being part of this remarkable community. I look forward to many more years of learning, achievement, and connection at Taree High – on the proud homelands of the Biripi people, where together we learn and succeed.
Marrungbu – thank you,
Nigel Reece
Executive Principal
